Talking
football |
Supports:
|
Norwich City
|
Most likes them to beat:
|
Ipswich. This season I’ll be happy if
we beat anyone.
|
Apart
from Norwich, would most like to play for: |
Real Madrid
|
Favourite
player ever:
|
Robert Green
|
Favourite
goal ever:
|
In real life, Steen
Nedergaard against Coventry in the 02/03 season.
|
Favourite
goal celebration:
|
I
like El Hadji Diouf’s celebration on Pro Evo.
|
Best
match attended:
|
Norwich
v Birmingham (2002 Division 1 Play-Off Final)
|
Best
football kit in history:
|
Norwich’s yellow and green with white splodges, undoubtedly.
|
Nightmare
eleven: |
Simon Tracey; Daryl Sutch, John Wark, Pascal
Cygan, Ivan Campo; Robbie Savage, Chris Llewellyn; Jason Lee, Trevor
Benjamin
[That's a nightmare nine - WA.]
|
Greatest
football memory: |
Norwich beating Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup. We were the first team, I think, ever to beat Bayern at their home ground in European competitions. It was a great day for Norwich.
|
Lowest
football memory: |
I think the relegation of Norwich from the Premier League. We’d been in the
Premiership from the beginning and it was hard to accept that we weren’t good enough anymore.
|
Playing
career: |
Lakeford Rangers, 1994/1995 to 1997/1998. Old Catton (Thom’s team) and us were the only two teams in the league capable of winning the league or cup and it was always a close one.

CULTURAL
PREFERENCES |
Favourite
TV programme: |
Curb Your Enthusiasm/Seinfeld, or
Neighbours or Hollyoaks.
|
Favourite
film: |
'A
Matter of Life and Death'. 'Ferris Bueller’s Day Off' isn’t far behind
though.
|
Favourite
book: |
'The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle' by Haruki
Marukami still, although Milan Kundera’s ‘The Unbearable Lightness of
Being’ gives it a run for its money. ‘Atomised’ by Michel Houellebecq
was marvellous too.
|
Favourite
music group/artist: |
British Sea Power
|
Top
10 albums: |
Pavement - 'Crooked Rain,
Crooked Rain'
Flaming Lips - 'Transmissions From the Satellite Heart'
British Sea Power - 'The Decline of British Sea Power'
Radiohead - 'OK Computer'
My Bloody Valentine - 'Loveless'
Scott Walker – 'Scott 4'
Bob Dylan – 'Blonde on Blonde'
Talking Heads – 'More Songs About Buildings and Food'
Leonard Cohen – 'Songs of Love and Hate'
Boards of Canada - 'Geogaddi'
|
Underrated/overrated
albums: |
British Sea Power’s classic ‘The
Decline of British Sea Power’ will probably never get the recognition it
deserves, but I go on about that enough. The Hidden Cameras’ gay folk
church anthems of ‘The Smell of Our Own’ is pretty underrated. As for
overrated, I don’t like The Stone Roses or (I’ll be killed for this)
David Bowie quite as much as everyone else seems to, though they’re by no
means bad of course. I should probably have said the Keane album or
something.
|
Best
gig/festival attended: |
British Sea Power, Cargo, London, 30th
May, 2004. An intimate party to celebrate the inauguration of the Czech
Republic into the European Union. Words couldn’t begin to describe its
greatness. Made up ones like ‘caner’ will have to do.

PHILOSOPHIES |
6
things to consign to Room 101: |
Tomato ketchup;
Mushrooms; Leaving the toilet seat up; When people incorrectly claim
something to be ironic when it clearly isn’t; Having sticky hands and
fingers; Having to pay my parents rent to live in my own house.
|
Favourite
snack: |
A Twinky.
|
Dream
job: |
Being Larry David.
|
Political
persuasion: |
I did a test on this on the interweb one
time which was like a compass thing, with left–right as one axis and
authoritarian–libertarian as the other, and I think I was slightly left,
slightly libertarian. A bit like Gandhi, apparently.
|
First
act as world leader: |
Have someone funnier
than me to write good answers to questions like these, maybe Seinfeld.
|
Motto: |
I’ll
get back to you on this one. |
